Why is it so important for products to be free from sulphates and parabens? What’s the big deal with these ingredients?
Parabens are chemicals that are commonly used to prevent bacteria and act as a preservative in deodorants, lotions, lipsticks, shampoos, scrubs, and more. Parabens are linked to several health concerns including breast cancer and reproductive disorders. While the most common parabens also have “paraben” in their name — butylparaben, methylparaben, and propylparaben — they can also be listed as alkyl parahydroxy benzoates.

Sulphates are cleansing and foaming agents that are frequently found in shampoos and body washes. Some of the most popular products contain sulphates because they help create foam. But this harsh chemical is also linked to skin irritation, hair loss and impaired hair growth. In addition to the health risks, sulphates strip hair and scalp of natural oils, and cause excessive dryness.

While both parabens and sulphates are generally harmless in low concentrations, we understand that parents would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to their children. pout Hair Care substitutes sulphates and parabens with natural plant derivatives that are gentle yet effective. These are safe for your child’s hair and scalp.

Questions on Natural Shampoo

How do I test the suitability of the shampoo for my child’s hair?
pout Natural Shampoos are gentle and suit all hair types. However, you may want to do a patch test by applying it on a small portion of hair and scalp. If the product causes discomfort on the scalp or excessive dryness to hair, do not continue to use the shampoo.

How much shampoo should I use?
You may dispense an amount about 1 inch in diameter. If the child’s hair is longer, feel free to use more. Ensure that hair is thoroughly wet so that the shampoo lathers easier. After testing the initial wash with this amount of shampoo, you may adjust the volume accordingly as needed. Hair and scalp should feel clean and light after a good wash.

Why doesn’t my pout Natural Shampoos lather so well?
pout Natural Shampoos do not contain sulphates – the ingredient that creates rich foam. To create lather, make sure hair is thoroughly wet before applying the shampoo. Use a sufficient amount, and continue to add water to create lather. Make sure shampoo reaches all parts of the scalp for an effective and even cleanse. Shampooing twice occasionally will also help. Shampooing the first time removes product build up that results in dull, dry hair. After rinsing off thoroughly, repeat the process. You will notice that there will be more lather the second time due to less residue on your child’s hair.

I noticed little ulcers on my child’s scalp when using pout’s Shampoo. Why did this happen?
If you are switching from a sulphate shampoo to a sulphate-free one, the scalp will need time to adjust to the change. Little ulcers may appear which may cause some itchiness. In other cases, insufficient amount of shampoo used to cleanse, or uneven cleansing, would result in little ulcers as well. Always ensure you use enough shampoo and thoroughly lather through every section of the scalp.

Questions on Hydrating Conditioner & Natural Detangler

What is the difference between a Conditioner and a Detangler?
A conditioner imparts moisture and protein to strengthen and hydrate the hair. Hair that is conditioned often will be able to resist breakage better, and will look shinier and healthier. A detangler helps remove tangles and smooths the hair cuticle but doesn’t penetrate the hair shaft. It works instantly, and can be used between shampooing or after play.

Behentrimonium Methosulfate is listed on the ingredients list of your conditioner. Isn’t that a sulphate and is it harmful?
Behentrimonium Methosulfate is made from non-genetically modified rapeseed oil and is not a sulphate. This ingredient is renowned for its superior detangling ability, without causing build-up on the hair. Unlike other conditioning ingredients, which are known for their irritancy, Behentrimonium Methosulfate is extremely mild, and is even recommended for use in baby products which are left on the skin. Because this ingredient directly deposits onto the hair follicle to smooth out the cuticles, it’s highly regarded for its conditioning abilities.
